East Coast Garda Sailing Club to the Rescue

(Setting: Cavalry charging across the plains of Mitchlestown, bugle call rallying all to the cause)

In the last issue of our newsletter, we thanked the East Coast Garda Sailing Club for their expression of sympathy and offer of support to help keep the activity level going in our club. This offer of help is really welcome, while we get ourselves back in action after the unfortunate accident with OASIS.

The East Coast Club is offering some vacancies on their 2003 cruise plan to our members. You might even get to see OASIS in the Port of Paimpol in Brittany. The list of dates and vacancies is published from John Dollard’s e-mail below. If you are interested in taking up the offer then contact the skipper of the relevant cruise. Do not delay, as the places are limited.

You will note that some of the changeovers are in and Jersey. This is because flights from Dublin with Aer Lingus can be bought for about 97 Euro. Be aware that Jet Magic is flying Cork to Jersey for about 50 Euro,(see www.jetmagic.com ). There is a good ferry link between Saint Malo and Jersey. That’s all the help that I can be, after that you have to boil your own eggs!

The Following is the text of an e-mail from John Dollard of the East Coast Club.

We have just had a committee meeting at which it was decided to extend all possible assistance to you.

Principally we will make any of your club members wishing to sail with us temporary members of the East Coast Club ( necessary for insurance) at no charge.

Cork Club members will pay standard sail fees - Euro 20 per night. This money goes to the club and does not include food/ moorings.

Bookings are made on a first come basis, directly with the Skipper. There is a Euro 50 non refundable deposit required to secure place

St Raphael II is a beneteau oceanis 361 which sleeps 8 in comfort.

France Cruise - All cruises will concentrate on North Brittany Coast. Most handovers take place in Jersey as crews will use Aer Lingus flights.

Update on Committee Activity South Coast Garda Sailing Club
The work still goes on to complete reports and link with the insurers on completing the claim. The underwriter’s loss adjuster will visit hopefully next week. It is possible that we may be closer to a solution after that visit. Updates will continue to be issued as and when information comes to hand.

On the basis that a picture is worth a thousand words I had hoped for a photograph of Oasis in Paimpol with her not so merry crew. Lets hope that the shyness fades and that soon we will we get a few shots for the so called experts to pore over while the rest of us patiently await their valued pronouncements.

Comments Please. Just while we are waiting for a sail maybe members would like to drop a note to the editor for inclusion in the next newsletter. Names will not be published (if you are afraid of the consequences). Comments to the editor: kategibney@hotmail.com
