1. Is it possible? Why not.
Yes the lunatic fringe are back at it again. After the last AGM anything is possible. The SCGSC has a new Commodore going under the alias of ‘Paddy Allen’ AKA ‘The Rock’ for obvious reasons for which we wont go into at this point in time. Suffice to say that his argument for a larger boat is on the grounds of health & safety. The further back you are from the point of impact the safer it is. I wonder why he thinks this.

The committee elected by the membership at the AGM is as follows:

Commodore : Paddy Allen

Hon Sec : JJ O’Keeffe

Treasurer : Tony O’Riordan

Committee Members :
Eoghan Allen who now takes over responsibility for ‘Explorer’

Victor Shine with responsibility for safety and training.

Dave Moore responsible for membership

Helen O’ Leary will assist Dave in the membership position.

Mick Murphy
will take responsibility for interior work on Explorer.

Mick Coughlan who is the outgoing Commodore is taking responsibility for electrical work and advising the current committee.

Paul Hogan
who did not go forward for election has taken over the major job of cleaning/ polishing the hull and anti-fouling below the waterline. This is a major piece of work and as Explorer is due to be launched on the 2nd April, it is requested that members make contact with Paul to lend their assistance.

The engine has been serviced at great expense by the 3rd Engineer from the ULCC ‘Alrehab’. The expense included overnight hotel accommodation in Hong Kong and mileage (return). I wonder where this engineer got his experience at submitting claims! In the course of the engine service it was found that the only spare part the club possessed was an impellor. This was great except that we did not possess a spanner small enough to do the job.

Mick Collins who again is not a committee member has taken in hand the job of having the central heating system overhauled and repaired. This system has not worked effectively since the boat was purchased.

This highlights the fact that this is your boat and every member not just the committee has a responsibility. If any member feels he or she can play a part please contact any member of the Committee.

2. New Members.
On your behalf the Committee are delighted to welcome into the South Coast Garda Sailing Club the following:

Claire Kennealy, Watercourse Rd Garda Station. Jim Morrissey, Fermoy Garda Station, John Moriarty, Brittas, Co Dublin, Cian O’ hIarlaithe, Fermoy Garda, Station.

This now brings the numbers in the club to a recent all time high of 40. Further entrants are in the pipeline which should bring the number to mid to high 40’s

If you know of someone who might wish to become a member of the club contact Dave Moore at 087-2328487 who will supply application forms and any other relevant information.

3. Boat booking.

Explorer is your boat and it is up to you as members to arrange cruises be it, day, overnight, or longer. All that has to be done is to book the boat with the booking officer through the Committee. The only requirement is that it is open to members of the club of which you are part owner.

Your Boat – Your Club – Use it!

Further Information on how to book the boat will be contained in the next News Letter
